Data Journalism Handbook set for publication this week

The Data Journalism Handbook, a free, open source reference book for anyone interested in the emerging field, is due to be launched during the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy this week.

The guide was conceived during a two-day workshop at MozFest 2011 Media, Freedom and the Web event in London. Subsequently it developed into an international, collaborative effort involving dozens of data journalism’s leading advocates and practitioners.

The handbook brings together contributions from experts who discuss what data journalism is, how it works and how to find data, and explore case studies of data journalism in practice. It includes contributions from data journalists at the BBC, the Chicago Tribune, the Guardian, the Financial Times, the New York Times and the Washington Post.

The handbook will be released for free online under a CC BY-SA licence, enabling users to read, copy and share it freely.

The handbook sign up list is open to anyone who wants to be notified when it is released.
