School of data ‘sprint’ announced

The School of Data will be running a kick-off ‘sprint’ on Thursday 24 May 2012 from 12-4 UTC/GMT to share ideas, source materials, and start building content for the school.

The sprint will be a hands on workshop via Internet Relay Chat (IRC) to gather:

  • suggestions for content and courses
  • recommendations (or donations) of high quality, openly licensed materials and resources, including interesting datasets to work with
  • offers to build a specific learning challenge or track
  • testers willing to try out and improve content.

To participate, sign-up on the Open Knowledge etherpad.

The school is encouraging anyone unable to participate during the workshop to visit the IRC room at other times and will try to ensure someone is in there whenever possible.

It is also encouraging interested parties to use its list (school-of-data@lists.okfn.org) to begin sharing ideas and resources.

The school – a joint venture between the Open Knowledge Foundation and Peer 2 Peer University (P2PU) announced in February – aims to provide flexible, on-demand, shorter learning options for people who are actively working in areas that benefit from data skills.
