Responsibility for funding of vocational masters a key question within consultation on postgraduate educationWhere the responsibility should lie for funding vocational masters training - research councils or higher education funding councils - is a key question in a wide ranging consultation on postgraduate education by former RSS president Adrian Smith at the Department for Business Innovation and Skills. RSS Executive Director, Martin Dougherty, says: "Having recognised the importance of the strategic need for masters degrees in statistics the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has stepped in to ensure continued support for UK students. The findings of the consultation will hopefully mean that the importance of this funding initiative is recognised and expanded either by the research councils or higher education funding councils. "However, it is vital that the role of masters degrees in statistics in the wider landscape of the UK economy is recognised during the consultation. "We are encouraging RSS fellows to comment directly on this review of postgraduate education." |
