The annual conference of the Radical Statistics group will take place on Saturday 27 February at Friends House, Euston Road, London NW1 2BJ.

The Radical Statistics group celebrates over thirty years of a regular newsletter, an annual conference and irregular publications. The theme for this year’s conference will be ‘Whose statistics?’ and will have a broad focus on statistics and politics. The group has been long known for its social perspectives on statistics in society, making research contributions to campaigns on health, education, race and the nuclear industry.

Contributors to the conference will include:

  • David Miller on Spinwatch
  • Eileen Magnello on Florence Nightingale
  • Paul Marchant on influential street lighting research
  • Heather Brooke on ‘right to know statistics’
  • Harvey Goldstein on statistical ethics in multilevel modelling
  • Danny Dorling on statistics of injustice

The conference includes activity workshops and social activities. Full details and a booking form may be found via the Radical Statistics group’s website.  The organisers make a point of low registration fees (£40 with reductions for students, unwaged and members) to encourage a mix of professional researchers and others interested in the issues discussed, and they request RSS members to circulate and promote to colleagues, friends, activists and students.
