New website gives free access to government dataWeb inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee has launched data.gov.uk, a new website making around 2,500 datasets from across government freely available to the public. As well as providing online access to a wealth of non-personal information, the site encourages users to share the applications they have developed, and offer their ideas of other ways in which data might be used. "Making public data available for re-use is about increasing accountability and transparency and letting people create new, innovative ways of using it. Government data should be a public resource," said Sir Tim. |
