The RSS Manchester Student Prize 2010 has opened and invites entries from final year undergraduates at universities in north west England completing an applied project with a substantial amount of statistics in it.

Now in its fourth year, the prize, run by the Manchester Local Group and sponsored by the Statistics and Chemometrics Group at Shell, has two categories:

  1. students having mathematics and/or statistics as their main subject
  2. those whose main subject is not mathematics or statistics.
There are three prizes available for each category: Gold (£100); Silver (£70) and Bronze (£50). The prizes will only be awarded if entries of sufficient quality are received.

RSS vice-president Andrew Garrett will present the prizes to the winners at the RSS Manchester Local Group meeting at the University of Manchester on Wednesday 7 July 2010.  In addition to collecting their prizes, all winners will also be invited to give a brief presentation of their projects.

Further details about the RSS Manchester Student Prize, including posters for students, guidelines, eligible institutions and entry forms, can be found at: www.rss-manchester.org/prize.html
