Statistical Challenges in Lifecourse Research Conference announced

This special two-day RSS conference, organised with the Division of Biostatistics at the University of Leeds, will take place on 13 - 14 July 2010 at Hinsley Hall, Leeds.

The aim of this event is to bring together researchers from epidemiology, statistics, and the social sciences to exchanges ideas regarding how to properly analyse longitudinal lifecourse data in order to identify the critical phases in lifecourse related to social, psychological and physiological wellbeing in later life.

Invited speakers include:

Franceso Billari (Institute for Economic Research, University of Bocconi, Italy);

Tim Cole (Institute of Child Health, University College London);

Michael Gamborg (Institute of Preventive Medicine, Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark);

Andrew Pickles (School of Medicine, University of Manchester);

Bianca De Stavola (Medical Statistics Unit, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine);

Fiona Steele (Centre for Multilevel Modelling, University of Bristol);

Katie Tilling (Department of Public Health Sciences, Kings College London);

Yu-Kang Tu (Division of Biostatistics, University of Leeds);

Jeroen Vermunt (Department of Methodology and Statistics, University of Tilburg, Netherlands);

Contributed talks and posters are now invited. Please submit a title and abstract of no more than 500 words to p.gentry@rss.org.uk by 5pm on Friday 30th April stating whether you prefer to present a poster or a talk.

Registration is now open at http://www.rss.org.uk/events (RSS Retired/Student Fellows £200, CStat/GradStat £215, RSS Fellow £240, RSS Member £265, Non-member £300). Registration includes lunches, refreshments, conference dinner and wine reception.

Accommodation is available in single ensuite rooms for the nights of the 12th, 13th and 14th at £65 per person per night including breakfast (twin rooms available on request).

A series of papers will be published from the meeting in JRSS-C "Applied Statistics" under the guest editorship of Bianca De Stavola and Fiona Steele. Contributors will be invited to submit papers for review following the conference.
