A highly participative workshop for statisticians who wish to improve their ability to help non-statistical clients.  Discussions and interactive exercise will allow participants to explore the non-statistical issues that can undermine effective consultancy.

Objectives:

  • To review the many context-related and inter-personal difficulties that statisticians may encounter during consultancy interactions.
  • To offer models or theories or paradigms, which shed light on why these difficulties arise.
  • To indicate which ways of working might be most effective with various clients.

The presenters:

Roland Caulcutt is a very experienced statistical consultant working in several large organisations.  He has also conducted many training programs for non-statisticians engaged in business improvement.  Roland was awarded the Greenfield Medal by the RSS in recognition of his contribution to the promotion of statistical applications in business and industry.

Julie Bullen is a psychologist specialising in the facilitation of teamwork and the achievement of more effective communication.  She has worked with people at all levels in many business organisations and public services in the UK and in Asia.

Roland and Julie have run many similar events for the RSS.
