Publications theme: advisors soughtIn 2004, the Publications Network of Advisors was established as part of the Society’s consultation mechanisms to enable the publications to be more open to comment and suggestions from members, so that they reflect better what people wish to receive for their subscription and are more relevant to the wider statistical community. The formation of the network coincided with the reorganisation of the journal series and the launch of Significance in that year, and since then the network has been continually reviewing the development of the publications in a rapidly changing publishing landscape and involving them in new electronic media projects. Each year some members of the network retire and therefore some new blood is needed to take their place from time to time. Publications theme director Jon Forster would therefore be delighted to hear from members of the Society who are willing to dedicate some of their time by being actively involved in guiding the direction of the publications over the next few years. Membership of the network is normally no longer than three or four years. The amount of effort that is required is not onerous. Much of the communication is by electronic means, though there is a meeting with the publishers each spring at the Society and there is usually a meeting in the autumn as well. Please therefore put yourself forward (by 31 August) for consideration to join the network by sending your name, address etc, together with a brief summary of your statistical interests and any other details that you think might be helpful, to Martin Owen, Theme Manager for Publications (Journals), at the Society’s address (phone 0207 614 3914; or email). |
