Take just a few moments to vote for your favourite 'Information Pioneer' as part of the Savvy Citizens Campaign being run by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT. Ada Lovelace (who, through Society co-founder, Charles Babbage, has a close association with the Royal Statistical Society) is in the running.

The Savvy Citizens campaign is currently focusing on Information Pioneers, looking at the contributions of five very different people who have helped to shape today's information society.

The five are:

  • Alan Turing
  • Hedy Lamarr
  • Sir Clive Sinclair
  • Sir Tim Berners-Lee
  • Ada Lovelace
A short film has been made on each contender with that on Ada Lovelace presented by Ortis Deley (of the "Gadget Show"). You can then vote for your favourite information pioneer.

  • Savvy Citizens is a British Computer Society (Chartered Institute for IT) campaign designed to boost the technical knowledge of the UK population (they have found that only 20 per cent of the population are "information savvy"). The campaign kicked off in November 2009 and, over the course of a year, will be discussing eight topics on different aspects of the information society.
