FiveThirtyEight, the blog that provides statistical analysis of developments in politics, society and sports has made its debut on the New York Times website.

Founded in 2008 by statistician Nate Silver, the blog has gained a significant global audience. Now it has become a key part of the politics section of America's paper of record.

With support from the NYT's editors, reporters, analysts and illustrators, FiveThirtyEight has received a major makeover, most visibly in the new datagraphics.

On its NYT launch, Silver penned a substantial description of the analytical methodology that FiveThirtyEight is using to forecast results in the upcoming US senate elections.
