Shortcomings identified by Professor Sheila Bird in the National Police Improvement Agency's (NPIA) reporting of costly research into public preferences for information about crime and policing have prompted her to speculate whether the Home Secretary disregarded the findings before launching the new police crime map or was bemused by their reporting.
  ASA conference call for papers

The American Sociological Association (ASA) will hold its 2011 conference in Europe for the first time and the organisers are keen to receive papers from European researchers. The conference will be of interest to researchers in social statistics and survey methodology and the deadline for paper submissions and registration is April 1.
